I read the review of the memoir. In part, I agree with the observation in the review of the unknowability of others. I feel that sentiment is also present in the film. I believe that one may never know another 100% BUt it is possible by asking questions of the other as well as one self & by studying both the other's & one's own culture-including racial, religious, class and gender issues to have a better than nothing handle on both oneself and the other. In the film, I saw little inquiry into self &/or others. I believe this may have arisen from the '50s(doesn't matter its set in '62) English culture view that racial, religious, class & gender differences would be absorbed by English culture. In other words everyone would be British !
