“Rabbi and Palestinians was one of the most moving moments in the film. Also loved the scene when you wait for the Muslim to find the negative passage in the Koran. Loved the soundtrack.”
“This film is a springboard from which to launch discussion. The discussion via panel allowed us to remain connected to the subject.”
“The film was very good! Panel discussion was excellent!”
“Gorgeous travelogue with interesting comments. A bit too long and too preachy.”
“Frustrating film. Raises more questions than answers. As an atheist living in a world surrounded by God (In God We Trust, God Bless You, no 13th floor, especially around Christmas where even Jonathan Schwartz doesn’t acknowledge Chanukah on his NPR Christmas show), I feel like hiding. God is a man-made concept to keep groups together and slaughter others… more people have died in the name of religion than for anything else (Egypt, Nigeria, Somalia, Rwanda, USA!) God does not choose which sports team wins, which people get AIDS…so many things that people attribute to a fairy tale. Can you tell I’m aggrieved?”
“Aimless, dull, but ultimately harmless. Has good intention, but can’t seem to get across clearly what those intentions are. The music and sound are poorly mixed. It’s religious without a sense of humor. Rodger is a solid narrator/director/guide though, and I hope he gets a chance to do something more interesting.”
“What emanated from this movie most for me from this film were the native sequences, American Indians, Hindu and Buddhist Indians, Australian Aborigines, African tribes, etc. There was a true spirit somewhat undefinable coming from the native population on screen. Greatest moment was the young cancer patient saying the Hail Mary and when it comes to the phrase ‘in the hour of death’ and the screen goes black and hold for a few beats.”
“Remarkable in many ways, first of all the degree-of-difficulty factor. Michael Moore tackling CAPITALISM was like a walk in the park compared to trying to figure out the Almighty, or even if there is an Almighty. The film seems short on substance, but – as the panel discussion proved – real substance about God is an empty exercise – there’s no empirical data, simply faith. And just like Moore the real victory will come from people discussing the topic rather than the 90-minute topic starter, as earnest and well done as it was. And it was very beautiful to look at.”
“Dull and boring. Could have used a little more humor. Did not leave me with anything to think about or discuss with others. Least of all question our own beliefs.”
“Almost no representation was given to non-believers. Religion for thousands of years divided people and continues to do it today.”
“Beautifully done. Find another subject.”
“Super panel today. Thank you for getting them all to be with us!”
“A ho-hum response to a critical topic. There was nothing unique in the explanation of the topic. Visually colorful, but content bland.”
“A serious subject but treated rather lightly. The best part was the fascinating soundtrack and some great shots of fabulous world scenes.”
“Very good soundtrack with some pretty images and a few moving statements. Politics, religion, health, - always begins with ‘I, me or my’ in discussion, so no comment.”
“Provocative! Beautiful to look at. To end with ‘God is love,’ very spiritually uplifting. How many wars were in the name of God?”
“Astoundingly interesting.”
“A complex subject sensitively treated. The photography was outstanding as was the music. There were some truly moving scenes.”
“Gorgeous geographic photography. Somewhat too long.”
“Very brave to make this film. The wisdom of the Aborigines was remarkable. The only people wanting to kill were some of the Moslems.”
“Boring, almost fell asleep. I also found the scene in the children’s cancer hospital to be bordering pornographic.”
“Interesting topic with wonderful photography, but too slow.”
“An extraordinary work.”
“Self indulgent, trite, not informative. Even as a travelogue it falls short. As often is the case discussion rises above the film.”
“Listening to the discussion I find Rodger so full of hot air and paraphrases! There is talent in this documentary in the cinematography and sound editing and its merit ends there. It was way too self indulgent and shallow.”
