“Perhaps not as satisfying as WAITRESS - it is smaller in scope and fits the format more of a short story than the fully realized scope of a movie - but this is clear evidence of what a tragic loss to the film community was the death of Adrienne Shelly.”

“A gem.  What a clever screenplay and swell performances!  To Andy I’m so glad you made this happen and honor Adrienne, an enormous talent by sharing it with us.”

“Reminded me of WAITRESS.  A person needs to finally realize that they need to come face to face with what the problem is and to decide the changes.  Meg and Tim made it work.”

“A made for TV confection.  Such attractive characters who are very superficial and predictable and yet entertaining.”

“Good music.”

“Serious mistake.”

“The end changes EVERYTHING! It was hard to buy that a crafty successful lawyer would be so neurotic, but now her theatrics fit in perfectly. She probably did the same in the courtroom. I kept thinking why don’t the robbers leave, but now I know there was no chance for them to be caught. And then there’s the fact they didn’t take her Grandmother’s silverware – OF COURSE - she told them not to!

“I loved the shifts that kept me engaged!  Seemed to never go where convention would suggest it might go.”

“Meg, give up the cutesy act!  Too obvious set up.”

“One of the worst movies I’ve seen in years.”

“Entertaining!”

“Although the premise of the movie was humorous, the dialogue and storyline were very sophomoric.  What a disappointment!  I love Meg Ryan and Tim Hutton, but this is an embarrassment to their careers.”

“Hopefully we can have SERIOUS MOONLIGHT 2!”

“This would have made a good TV sitcom.  Male characters say things over unconscious women we would like to hear. Tim Hutton was good.  Was Meg Ryan filmed through gauze?”

“Great ending!”

“Very obvious.”

“This was so funny and believable.  Acting was terrific.”

“The mast majority of films are made and written by males and are (duh!) male fantasies.  This one, as well as DEATH BECOMES HER, which immediately come to my mind, is that rare breed, a female fantasy.  The cast was good; the plot mostly predictable, helped by some good lines.”

“Fun and varied, but too play-like.”

“Serious subject made fun.  MOONSTRUCK meets Ms. Manipulation.”

“OK this is no SIXTH SENSE, but that’s the most memorable final shot of any movie I’ve seen in a long time.”

“Relationships are hard work, even under the best circumstances.  This film was an extreme example of looking at the pores of a romantic triangle, first from the outside in, then beautifully from the inside out.  I just couldn’t stop thinking: wasn’t it really smelly in that bathroom?”  My condolences to Mr. Ostray and I praise his ability to work through his personal pain to pay the very best homage to his murdered wife.  I applaud him for getting Ms. Shelley’s work out there right away.”

“This film was too relentlessly dark for me.  Perhaps a different actress could have brought some comedic balance or lightness to bear, but not Meg Ryan.  She’s paralyzed with Botox and her physical humor was unnatural.  Where’s Sandra Bullock when you need her?”

“Better than I thought it was going to be.  It was not just fluff.  Will have people examining ‘what will I do for love to keep my love?’ The cast was great.  Even though there is the twist ending if you think about it ultimately it doesn’t matter whether she set it up or if it was just a circumstantial happening.  The violence was upsetting but it made the break in-real.”

“Interesting premise.  Excellent acting.  A reminder to reflect on our true feelings and needs and not ego.”

“I found parts of the film upsetting in view of the manner in which Ms. Shelley died.”

“If made into a play avoid the scissors left on the floor and broken glass on the floor and water to release tape and all kinds of things in medicine chest. A give-away to being planned.”
