“I found this charming and very touching.”

“Two great characters and actors. A sweet, sad and humorous movie that was enjoyable and refreshing to see older folks in love. The friendship between these two fellows was so touching. Despite Lenny’s grouchy character, there lies a romantic soul. I loved the contrast of the two men, one so sweet and the other is disgruntled. Loved the line about Italy and what would it be ‘senza Sophia.’”

“Just loved it!”

“Enjoyed trying to figure out where each scene was filmed.”

“I wanted to like this film. Alas, I was bored and turning deaf from the volume of the soundtrack and finally actually despised Lenny.”

“What a disappointment. A waste of such good actors! Don’t understand the motivation of Lenny, Mimi or Reuben beyond what they say they are doing. Who is Lenny? Why does Reuben love Lenny? What’s Mimi’s story? I get that it’s supposed to be about the passing of the old New York, but it doesn’t work.”

“Nice to have Dick Latessa and Harvey Wang as guests. The film is way too long and for me the whole story about the wife, Marcy should have been cut. Too convoluted and unbelievable bittersweet story. Dominick’s back-story feels a bit sketchy. He lived a whole life, how did he get there? Apparently at one point he had money to invest, how did he get that money and why did he let his nephew lose it? (too thin). Great scenes in the bar and Eisenberg’s. Liked the film better after the discussion.”

“Wonderful talent, but the story was a fairy tale.”

“Gave me hope for my future.”

“The first act I loved and at times the dialogue and characters and settings make me think I was watching a Woody Allen movie. Lenny’s character becomes so pathetic the film is ultimately very depressing and cynical. He’s not a charming romantic, but a sad old loser.”

“A bit slow, but good character study. Liked all the NY scenes. Very PBS Indie film.”

“A touching nostalgic look back at 2 NY guys from a time gone by. These buddies embody old time values of caring, respect, covering and supporting each other. Ms. Chalfont is elegant and charming, she was just perfect for the part. The ending is totally unrealistic, 2 old men on social security ending up in Venice one of the most expensive cities in the world. I liked the soundtrack. Good use of music. Also nice pacing, the scene with taxi driver was great! Very authentic NY look.”

“I found it interesting that Lenny referred to himself as ‘I’m nothing’ 2 times in the movie. Why did Lenny have a passport if he had never left NY in his adult life? Poetic license? The characters were believable. A good story!”

“Talk about male bonding. This is quintessential. The actors were so believable. Loved the NY City scenes and the pathos of getting old in a rapidly changing environment. Truly a love/hate relationship. These two guys loved their lives in NYC without ever working? Wish I knew.”

“Truly a waste of time filming a story about people with absolutely no redeeming qualities. Not only was Lenny a loser, but he lacked charm and was annoying.”

“About half way through I ran out of sympathy for Lenny. A one-liner that lasted way too long.”

“Slow moving and depressing film.”

“Though I liked the look of this film very much, I found the script stilted and the soundtrack tinny. Also a big problem, I found Lenny the lead character completely off-putting.”

“What a lovely small conversation about 2 older men watching New York become a few big corporations. I am nostalgic about my upper westside’s past, now a bank or Starbucks on every corner. If it weren’t for theater, (and MEA!), we’d follow Reuben and Lenny to Venice. This was such a personal experience, especially with an aging father going through a similar transition (but opposite, from NJ to NY).”

“Good idea and what is happening to NY? Bit too slow.”
