“Powerful focus on the randomness of life.”
“Serious look at lives of real people. Thought provoking. Beautiful, engaging cinematography.”
“Music was shrill and very annoying.”
“The sound was so irritating that I had to put my fingers in my ears. Too load and shrill. The film was actually good but the music took away from it.”
“Offbeat film. The music fits in well.”
“What was this film about? It seemed to go nowhere. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it didn’t. The director however was charming and very intelligent and very interesting.”
“It’s not my usual cup of tea, but listening to the director comment about Haiku made me realize the emotions he was going for. It wasn’t my cup of tea because of the very slow pace and minimal dialogue. A very personal film. Thank you Eric for explaining your process and purpose. (How about a book? – movie making on a shoestring.) Growing up they filmed THE NAKED CITY in my building and it was such an exciting event, when I had my own apartment they were filming NETWORK in an apartment in my building. (People loved to be involved in movie making.)”
"Slow, wonderfully atmospheric, and beautifully directed, but I’m with Edie. When her family asks why she was crying and she says, “I have no idea,” neither did I."
“I found this film so labored and slow that the art of telling the tale was lost, and the tale, I’m sorry, just wasn’t developed enough.”
“The analogy to haiku was apt. I liked this film very much. When the character John drives away from home, the overhead shot lingering on his car’s path, and merging into the busy highway a tone is set for this look into lives that could be any lives. Very effective and very touching.”
“Loved the woodwinds.”
“Fade to white? What’s John’s (lead character) problem? I loved Edie, but Yuk! Awful long trip to ferry.”
“What a good little film about real life.”
“Strength of this film is that you really feel like you’re inside the heads of the main characters.”
“The silence is as awkward and discomforting as the conversation.”
“Haiku notwithstanding, I need a story! Wonderful acting and cast, but I kept waiting for something to happen. It gladdens my heart that the writer/director loves to teach and has a high moral standard. It saddens my heart that he has gone bankrupt for this S-L-O-W M-O-V-I-N-G film. And good for him that he is not compromising and has wonderful friends and persuasive skills.”
"A superb glimpse into the backyards – the lives – of neighbors just a few feet but often light years away in terms of any real connection. But motives are often unclear – maybe some backstory isn’t such a bad thing."
