“Predictable plot, not very interesting.”
Production values look great for a movie that I’m sure cost less than the cost of two special effects for INTERSTELLAR. The film is well-written, well made and will find an audience, I’m just not it.”
“Well, it’s a start. Too many plot lines to follow. Will make a lot of sadistic movie fans very happy.”
“A distasteful film! The basic premise of the film is unrealistic. An intelligent young woman like Sue would never be hanging out with a low life like BJ! If I weren’t in the class I would have walked out halfway through. The best scene in the film was in the Biscuit and Gravy shop before BJ showed up!”
“Couldn’t get much worse!”
“Neo noir south Texas style may be like a giant texas BBQ – too bloody and bad for the heart. Loved the pre-robbery robbery scene, yet that was almost light-hearted and perhaps out-of-keeping with a lurid story told in uncompromising, seedy style.”
“Rick Perry, Ebola and now this! Is there anything good in Texas? Certainly dark, extremely violent, but the stage is well set for evil doings.”
“Great 1st film. Well cast. Sue is way too bright to be with BJ.”
“I found this movie very upsetting, difficult for me to watch. I am surprised that you chose this move to show us. It was not a movie I would have chosen to see.”
Simon and Zeke Hawkins were wonderful – smart, thoughtful, and with a clear grasp of film histroy. Their film clearly shows they are talented. Perhaps they will be smart enough to choose less lurid material. (Is that what people are buying these days?)
“I couldn’t stop fixating on Bobby’s hair. It was so out of place.”
“An ugly, gritty, violent potty mouth film with a noir plot. Keeps you thinking about who will betray who. Atmospheric but predictable music. Why did Big Red let them go? Thanks for coming for the discussion.”
“My reaction was my heart in my mouth, so scared. Really kept me at the edge of my seat.”
“So fun, but predictable.”
Much preferred THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY for neo noir, but these boys have lots of talent. Are they really brothers?
“It was a good film. Good acting by all cast members. It is an emotional action packed film. We can truly feel the anticipation and anxiety build up. A suspense filled crime drama.”
“The film looked gorgeous, sounded great – noir WITHOUT a Bernard Hermann sounding score.”
“The story was much too sadistic for me. Not my genre at all. It is a well-crafted film, though some of the dialogue struck me as clever beyond character credibility. Best part was the cinematography.”
“Why select something so repulsive for MEA.”
“Not quite the Coen brothers. Casting is interesting, how did they get William Devane to sign on to this film? The three main characters were good together. Jeremy Allen White makes you root for any character he plays. Mark Pellegrino was so evil. Devane in a bathrobe, too cool. Clearly happening before any technology is available.”
“Total madness!”
“What a waste of time. So much talent with a terrible story.”
“Bad!”
“Not my type of movie. I liked the characters but not the execution.”
“BAD TURN WORSE…. and boy did it! Movie began well, although except for BIG RED’S twist, it became more and more predictable. Young actors were wonderful. Music and location shots perfect! Can’t wait for another good movie!”
“Didn’t care about these characters.”
