“Brings the novel into sharp focus. Excellent choice of casting. Location and screenplay captures the same feeling of poignancy as the book Bravo!!”
“Slow, depressing and bleak."
“I thought that the subject of the film was great. It really brought my attention to a subject that never really crossed my mind.”
“I had no idea of the subject of the film. It overwhelmed my emotions. We have farmed Salmon and ‘farmed organs.' Only problem was understanding the accents in parts. Very sad to see such potential taken before their time. Completion- wow- dead is dead. You cannot lessen the blow.”
“Slow! It never let us go!”
“We are individuals and it is impossible to make clones of us…as the article in the book review is titled – ‘TROUBLE IN THE MONKEY HOUSE’.”
“Are they orphans?”
“What an intelligent, literate and thought provoking film. Carrie Mulligan continues to reinforce the notion she will be an important and prominent actress for years to come. Andrew Garfield was excellent…this is my first exposure to him and it harkens back to the initial viewing of Carrie Mulligan in ‘AN EDUCATION.' They are both fine examples of the future of meaningful and exciting cinema. A very interesting take on a subject I thought had been, more or less, fully explored in other films. It serves to show there is always more to learn - especially when we think we now it all.”
“Scary adult movie. We are steps away from human cloning. The face of evil is banal, no? Great cast. I fully understood this was about cloning.”
“Depressing! Would not have gone to see this in the movies, but would’ve watched it if it was on demand because I like both of the lead actresses. Why weren’t they saying no? I understood when they were very young not protesting, but as they got older and became more aware. I find it hard to believe that not one of them tried to fight back, escape, seek legal help. I had a hard time emotionally connecting to characters and I usually connect very easily to films. Didn’t realize they were clones! I understood the science aspect.”
“Certain reactions were dragged. It was unknown that they were clones.”
“I’m curious why they could not cut bracelets off or run away? Were they that mentally programmed that they were scared not to donate. Also why were they created or chosen to be modeled to donate. Brainwashing for sure. I found it funny that they weren’t learning much how to function in real life, but they found their physical connections, such as being intimate.” Kellie Butler, Caldwell student
“Highly recommendable film. A different film. An epic thrill mixed with a powerful love story. Well done.”
“I liked everything about this film, but the premise. The performances, the direction, the cinematography and all the production aspects were superbly done. I just wish all this was about something real and not the science fiction carer/donor plot. It just doesn’t work to have all the drama and a gimmick. There is more talent here and plenty of making for a better plot.”
“Provocative!”
“Depressing and frightening. This concept could have easily come out of Nazi Germany.”
“A most disturbing film. Well-acted and interesting subject matter while thought provoking. I found it depressing.”
“I really enjoyed this film. I thought the storyline was very creative and different. It was really an eye opener and was extremely moving and touching.”
“A great cast in a hollow, gray movie. Once Miss Lucy tells the children the truth about their future, I was waiting for the children and young adults to either run away or learn how to enjoy their lives or rebel. The 3 kids love for each other was palpable but did the film have to be so gray and slow and soft spoken? Not an easy film to watch early in the morning. Not a movie that supports organ donation! Didn’t know they were clones!”
“Science fiction goes Merchant Ivory…the science fiction was only teasingly and not very clearly revealed, but I found it more engaging than the young people’s story. Left me with many questions; reminded me of much of what’s already wrong with big medicine. Beautiful to look at and well acted. I wanted more facts.”
“A powerful and emotional look at the idea cloning and the question of what is humanity. Thought provoking film. Discussion provoking of the clones had souls. Why didn’t any rebel and fight to continue?”
“I would not have seen this on my own.”
