“Very similar to the TV show MAD MEN in it’s advertising theme, but deeper, dirtier and more mysterious, but all in a good way. The subject matter and theme of social and media criticism was so interesting and spot on. The ending was a bit confusing, but worked with the rest of the film.”
“Billy Wilder’s 1,2,3 on steroids. PUTNEY SWOPE for the new millennium. Loved the film and the Babylonian mythology and references to Tower Of Babel. A smart film! I loved the whole speech about the money: what is there when there’s no idea behind the piles of money? For Russia or US?"
“Please no more Russian films.”
“Visually very interesting to watch, but the dialogue is deep for a movie. The poetry and philosophical ideas need time for thoughtful consideration, and the nature of the medium does not allow thoughtful pauses.”
“Connections in the dark (without mushrooms/drugs etc.). The medium is the message. Sort of a never-ending story of mind/state control of influence. Very quirky for the intellectually curious. Great special effects. It is a mind trip without drugs flowing in and out of reality. Liked it a lot.”
“Appropriate title THE LONG BAD TRIP.”
“Extraordinarily creative if difficult to follow. It was like going on a virtual LSD trip, very transformative. Actually quite philosophical and serious about society, politics, human experience. Quite an amazing feat! The actor portraying Babylen was remarkable.”
“I think you might need to be on acid to appreciate this movie. Best left as a book. Does not work as a movie.”
“Brilliant imagery! Took so many notes during the film, I filled half a pad! Perfectly timed. Presidential election week. Billions (maybe just millions) spent on advertising the last 2 years – Republican ads that were total lies! The WOWISM (my new favorite word!) A Russian REEFER MADNESS. Loved Harley Davidson ads. Great guest, wish you kept the Gap ad.”
“Weird and strange. Hard to take!”
Because you don’t follow thru with The Gap I think it should have been cut. Brilliant film!”
“What a long strange trip! Is life your hallucinogenic movie?”
“Two hours I will never get back, nor do I want to.”
“I’ll recommend this film to my friends in advertising and to all those like me who are paranoid about putting out the message and pulling the strings. A little long, wonderfully trippy, very smart.”
“Some LSD should have been handed out to us before the film.”
“A background was needed in Russian history to understand what was on the screen. I didn’t get it!”
“UGH!”
"The worst!"
“What to say? Amusing yes, creative yes, but I understood nothing. Drug taking reminded me of USA in 60’s. Would I benefit from book about Russian culture or does this have nothing to do with Russia?”
“I’m sure this could have been done better. A very good subject, but I could not understand the film. One problem: I kept falling asleep. I could not get interested in what was happening on the screen. The director speaks perfect English. Is he Russian American?”
“Incomprehensive nonsense. This film is cinematic masturbation and like most masturbation should remain in the head of the fantasizer. Like movies such as TREE OF LIFE or THE MASTER, the director seems to love it, but viewers are confused. The director was as self absorbed and pretentious as the film.”
