“So S-L-O-W and so predictable. ust a so-so film.”
“Gandolfini is so unattractive, yet he gets roles for attractive men.”
“Moving and very original. The acting was great!"
“Melissa Leo inhabits her character like a glove. She always surprises the viewer with her portrayal of sympathetic and quirky characters. Dark film, but also keeps revealing itself in surprising ways, unfolds slowly. James Gandolfini plays a different kind of character than his usual in this. Kristen Stewart, odd but interesting choice for substitute daughter. There were some very empathetic moments. Loved Melissa Leo and Kristen Stewart together.”
“Although the audience member criticized the film’s fairy tale, that quality didn’t keep me from liking it. This was a character driven film and it was satisfying to see each of the 3 leads develop over the course of the film. The true movement in this movie was internal. The external actions strained credibility, but their only function was to catalyze interior change.”
“Kristen Stewart was not well cast for this role. James Gandolfini was very good and pulls the audience in.”
“Wonderful acting all around and a very moving and touching story. Loved the way it unfolds slowly and enlightens all the characters’ lives at the end.”
“Good film but needs more careful editing in spots.”
“Slow and unrealistic. This was a drag!”
“A slice of life – very realistic – hard to watch, but acting was excellent. It’s for someone who is a real character driven film buff. The slow pace was spot on.”
“ ‘WELCOME TO THE RILEYS’- welcome to life, pain, confusion – a slice of life drama with superb acting. One of the Riley’s withdraws from life, numbing all feelings, all connections; the other attempted to recreate a father- daughter relationship and in the end the strength of the relationship between the husband and the wife brought them back to each other and continuing their life, coping with their loss.”
“This was like a long, burning bus ride – reverse- from a place I never wanted to visit in the first place. A decent idea for a film, but poorly executed.”
“Terrible film would make an awful B movie. Only good actor was Melissa Leo.”
“Not a bad idea, but one that is overdone. Film really drags along.”
“Honest and sincere, but for a character-driven piece the characters never really changed. (There was) not enough emotional definition to truly draw us in, their lack of complexity a hindrance to our liking and identifying with them – most especially Kristen Stewart who certainly looked the part but was also lacked back-story complexity. Where is Tennessee Williams when you need him?”
“Reminded me of ‘LOST IN TRANSLATION.’ I liked the pace. Sound was amazing.”
“Good subject, but a bit of a tear jerker. Melissa Leo was great!”
“A new take on ‘PRETTY WOMAN,’ but not nearly as good.”
“Welcome to the internal life of grieving couple. Sometimes the death of a child - a tragedy - and a couple can share each other’s grief. In this case, each had imprisoned themselves in an impenetrable shell. Yet another case where communication and therapy would have changed the movie. I was caught up by the close-ups of the 3 main characters. They acted more with their eyes to show their thoughts, emotions and their physical acts. It’s hard to say I liked this movie, but I was totally involved…so glad it wasn’t tied up neatly.”
“Boring film. The only positive thing about this movie is the let’s pretend daughter did not come to live with them.”
