“The art direction was fabulous. Opening great color form and fun. “
“Loved it! Fun funny romantic. Great editing, acting and color. Musical score was spot on. So many amusing moments. So nice to see a feel good (of course we know how it would end despite suspense) comedy. I see what you meant by homage to Doris Day/Rock Hudson genre films down to the ponytail. I’ve seen Romain Duris in several French films. He’s so good. One could also have a serious conversation about the social issues of the 50’s how women were viewed and treated. Home and marriage vs. independence and work.”
“In the mid 80’s I met an elderly philanthropist whose deceased sister had been a champion competitive typist, and I’d never heard of such a thing before that. Before the introduction of the IBM selectric typing ball, to avoid those tangled rods when typing fast, the standard key arrangement was introduced to slow down fast typist. Fun film!”
“A very enjoyable film. It shows how you can make a contest out of anything. The nude scene is regrettable as it conflicts with the 50’s feel of the rest of the film. Opening credits wonderful.”
“Delightful step back in time, charming film reminiscent of late 50’s-60’s romantic comedies with Audrey Hepburn; Doris Day etc. Pygmalion like transformation. Loved the scenes of the competitions like RAGING BULL, camera moving around them. References to Hitchcock in the hotel room like VERIGO; the reflections of the image of the hotel on the two main characters. Opening credits are similar to CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. Color was like Technicolor so vibrant it popped! So French!”
“A Bon – Bon confection. Thank – You!”
“Pygmalion in disguise.”
“Now that’s a romantic comedy! Utterly predictable, utterly delightful. Recreates the 50’s style perfectly. The typing competition was so interestingly unique.”
“Charming! Loved it. Beautiful in everyway. However, can a young woman today believe that the only way a woman could get a job in any field in private industry was to know how to type? Today every executive has to type on his/her computer.”
“POPULAIRE needs to be released in the U.S. much sooner than September!”
“Seeing films like this in the 50’s made me the woman I am today!”
“Bubble gum for the brain. WE all need some from time to time!”
“Charming, romantic and humorous. Enjoyable lite fun."
“Yuck!”
“From the opening credits through the closing song this film was a joyride of colorful sets, spot on costumes (the hair! The eyeglasses!) and charming characters. What a pleasure.”
“A well done light piece of fluff.”
“Great very entertaining! Great music! Predictable!”
"Fun!"
“Romantic comedy French style. Secretary falls in love with male chauvinist boss and the French make it entertaining and fun. “
“Charming film and characters.”
“A delightful movie well done.”
“POPULAIRE is a whimsical throw back to the late 1950’s with a wonderful soundtrack.”
“Delightful fun film! The acting was excellent.”
“Satire and serious was not a problem for me.”
“FABULOUS! Loved it.”
