A hot shot Washington DC lobbyist and his protégé go down hard as their schemes to peddle influence lead to corruption and murder.
“Great film. Importantly it raised consciousness regarding lobbyists influencing corrupt Washington. I loved the McCain part.”
“How embarrassing.”
“Found the film to be too linear and boring and numbing. The documentary version was better.”
“At times the soundtrack muffled the dialogue. The opening cinematography was very artistic, then not maintained. I found the film to be a tragicomedy.”
“Will my students see Abramoff as presented in this film and say “what a sleaze ball?” I think many of them would see him as a colorful quirky entrepreneur.”
“Old news, but still interesting and important.”
"What a curious approach to take when presenting a portrait of this convicted criminal. He’s presented as immature, but Abramoff and his kind are cold and calculating, and knew full well what they were doing when they bilked the native Americans out of millions of dollars, or glossed over what was essentially slave labor in Asian sweatshops. I found the film superbly well made, and Spacey was great, but Abramoff should be vilified, not empathized."
“Mesmerizing film with great performances.”
“If this doesn’t depress you about the state of our government and politics you’re a noodle–headed Pollyanna!”
“Opening scene: running water, toothbrush, toothpaste…speech in the bathroom, that probably was enough…”
“Again, a truth is stranger than fiction film. One character is shadier then the next. A poorer imitation of the real documentary.”
“The opening monologue identifying me (and most of the audience) as big losers was a big risk for the film maker. I have no doubt it was an accurate statement of all lobbyists’ point of view. But after such an unforgivable diss, I had a hard time giving a flying f about Casino Jack’s story.”
"Kevin Spacey was perfect for the role and makes the best of it. Academy Award awaits?"
“Not as compelling as the documentary - CASINO JACK AND THE UNITED STATES OF MONEY, but entertaining with all the embellishments. Not a comforting picture of our leaders in any case.”
“Too long – would be a lot better if it was cut by 1/2 hour. Kevin Spacey is really good as Abramoff.”
“Terrific entertainment. Best movie of the year. Superb acting. Nominations all around. So many great male performances this year, choosing will be tough. Editing and cinematography and screenplay were all first rate and award winning level. Spacey was unbelievably good.”
“Loved it! Kevin Spacey and Jon Lovitz were terrific.”
“The documentary was so much better.”
