“Spellbinding, tense and breath-taking. So sad that nothing changes as evidenced by recent terrorist killings in New Zealand. Today’s world brings tears to my eyes and pain to my heart.”
“Held my attention. Sad story. Well told. Could it spark revenge. When will they ever learn?”
“So realistic. Fabulous historical story told so well. What can you say! Thank you! These films need to be made!”
“The violence, the inhumanity of religious zealots made it difficult to view. I struggle to avoid those shots of the present day’s massacres.”
“Hotel Mumbai, like Hotel Rwanda, becomes a brief fragile sanctuary of sanity is world gone mad. But there was very little on-screen violence in Hotel Rwanda, while this film’s graphic killings are questionable. At what point does this become snuff-film pornography?”
“I remember when this happened, a friend of mine had just returned a day or two before this attack, but I didn’t remember how incredibly broad this attack was. We only see 4 men attacking and keeping this hotel hostage, how was it possible that no security could fend them off? That said, I thought the timing of this film is incredible with the New Zealand attack. The role of the media is questioned. 20 million people in Mumbai and no real security? That makes no sense, a perfect target.”
“Why make this film? The documentary had meaning. This had too many facets that didn’t work well. We all read the papers… Violence was overwhelming.”
“Stunning, gripping filmmaking, superbly crafted. But the fear and tension so palpable on screen is graphically depicted for what reason? Yes, we appreciate the hotel workers as heroes, despise the terrorists as inhuman killing machines, and hope this never happens again. But those who hate will see this as a blueprint for further terror. I appreciate this film and yet find it deeply disturbing.”
“Great film, but too violent.”
“Would have liked more info on events, people, politicians, police.”
“Armie Hammer is a very busy actor but he chooses his roles carefully. But everyone in the cast is superb. Best Ensemble Acting.”
“An exciting adventure film. The action was intense and suspenseful. I like that it was done without addressing political, social, religious issues. It was purely a story of survival. I believe we did not see this story as people who joined together to work together, but rather it was a story of how individuals focused on their personal survival and not a story of heroism or leadership or politics.”
“OMG tension, tension, tension.”
“Haunting fear and tension as the characters struggle to survive, who will live and who will die? That’s the basis of just about any disaster movie, but here the disaster is religious fanaticism, and that is the most terrifying monster of all.”
“Dev Patel has grown immensely from where we first saw him in Slumdog Millionaire, and he is perfect to open and close the film on a purely human level of family, home and children.”
“Yes, exploit! How else can we learn?”
“Tough movie. Not sure who I could recommend this movie to.”
“Riveting and fabulous. A very important film for a very trying time. Hate=destruction.”
“I’m devastated. Since this is an Aussie film and was probably seen there in New Zealand I hope it wasn’t the inspiration for the anti Muslim terrorists.”
“Possibly a little too violent for many people. Maybe edit it a little.”
“Incredible timing showing this film the day after the New Zealand terror attack. But sadly those seem to occur so often these days that it shouldn’t be a surprise.”
