“So well written, cast, direction, editing - all the production values were first rate. I didn’t expect to enjoy this film; glad that I really did!” Jeanne K
“Riveting film! Focuses on the use of science to increase profit. Mirror of actual event. Every part of film - sound effects, editing and music were excellent. Bit about lemon growers displays the issue of income disparity.”
“Boring!”
“Some scenes were interesting, fast vs. slow, old stock exchange and Amish folks. Some wonderful visuals, but overall tedious film. A peek into the greed that drives our society.”
“A nice surprise! A solid moral tale of greed and obsession for a buck, or a million $. Hayek’s character a little one dimensional and unexplained, but she stands in for well for the mindless unapologetic immorality so present on Wall Street.”
“Pretty good film and a nice look at the stakes in high-speed trading and the human price paid for these goods. I’m with the Amish. I loved the casting and performances and ensemble of characters.”
“Interesting in trying to understand the new trading paradigms. But very technical and took too long to develop.”
“A fascinating parable of greed getting in the way of life, and it’s only when his life is challenged by death does he appreciate what he has. ‘Slow down and enjoy today’ is the moral here, nicely visualized by the slo-motion rain at the end. Nicely done.”
“Is this our future?”
“Noteworthy character study of cousins/brothers, caught up in a desire for fortune. Curiously Vincent - the brother with the social/financial/business skills is the one without a family, while Anton, just this side of a savant is happily married with two kids (and a future scientist daughter).”
“Salma Hayek’s hair stolen right out of Glenn Close’s Cruella DeVil.”
“High speed frenetic money seeking life vs, the simple life. What kind of life do you want to have? Interesting film. The construction aspect was fascinating with everything involved to create this fiber-optic line. Philosophical question raised were good. Had the high speed pace of THE BIG SHORT. I liked this film. Also shows the ruthlessness of businesses to win at any cost.”
“I’d label this a disaster movie! Of no interest to me at all. Also why are people in movie rain scenes never even a bit wet despite the intensity of the downpour?”
“’If my life was only 15 milliseconds long’ pretty much summarizes the film’s core here, and it’s a valid message. Great script, perfect acting.”
“Totally fictional in this sense: I can never get through to tech support that fast, or reach anyone who knows anything.”
“Characters were more sympathetic at end of film. Social commentary. Timely: greed to the ninth degree. Liked the nature shot. I liked the Llama blanket.”
“Loved the diversity of the characters, the black female engineer, the Mexican builder, even Salma Hayek and the Asian student from NYU who comes up with the microwave tower plans.”
“Problem with the film is the plotting, too many characters appear and suddenly are dropped from film story without explanation. Pacing needs to speed up, little suspense.”
“A fiber optic cable that is supposed to increase communication has become the means of our destruction. Who is the master of our technology? Does it bring us together or have us smashing our keyboards on the counter? When the robots are in charge we going to wish we were all Amish.”
