“Difficult subject to tackle, but important to see. Well done!”
“Good film for all to see and understand people as they are aging.”
“A few scenes unnecessarily dark, and I don’t mean depressing, I mean put a light on!”
“Very slow and plodding. I don’t think there was any real chemistry with these fine actors. I’m not sure what connected them.”
“Boring and redundant. The best scene was the end. Too bad the film is not more in that mode.”
“Unique portrayal of fears of individuals and quest for control. Intergeneration scene – wow! Sweet that they can connect. Model for healthy coupledom in late life!”
“I hate a film that shows stupid old people.”
“Loved the opening credits. Loved the opening shot. Loved the cinematography. I hated the last 15 minutes and especially the ending. When the writer’s agenda (especially the POV pivots to pure hokeyness) overwhelms the narrative and characters I loose all wilting suspension of disbelief.” See you in Sept Jeanne K.
“A very nice look at a couple of people understanding that all people need people, and when they don’t have a partner they compensate with objects, he with his survivalists’ stores and she a hoarder. Clever metaphor, clever film, FABULOUS ending. Just wish I liked them each a little more.”
“The shame that embraces both characters manifest itself in full development in either ends of the spectrum of hoarding. The end is unexpected justifying his version of a possible future.”
“Some nice surprises in the storyline, especially the ending. Even senior citizens may be ‘seeking a partner for the end of the world.’”
“A poignant quirky film with two quirky people making a connection and about the psychology of control (a prep-er) and chaos (a hoarder). Liked it until he comes home from the hospital. Then it becomes saccharine. Lithgow and Danner were great. They really captured their characters.”
“Needlessly ominous.”
“Lithgow is quirky and is always great. But it’s uncomfortable to see people with psychological problems. Really sweet moments but moves slowly.”
“Charming film, excellent acting but script was poor. Writer wanted it to be cute.”
“Actually, a very clever first film. Great premise – we need people not objects – and very nicely shot and acted. Hey, two pros like Paltrow and Lithgow add immeasurably to any script.”
