Oliver (Alex Wolff) is a Queens high school senior who is madly in love with Violet, the girl of his dreams. Oliver's older brother, Jack (Nat Wolff), is not so lucky with his love life, having made a real connection with a girl who suddenly dropped him without any explanation. When Jack comes home from college for a special celebration of Stella, the family's beloved but aging dog, he soon discovers that the girl who broke his heart is the very same Violet who has stolen Oliver's heart. A series of comic complications ensue as the romantic rivalry between the brothers escalates, Violet wavers between the two equally appealing siblings, and the entire family tries to get through the emotional upheaval of Stella's impending "last hurrah."

“The best feel-good movie I’ve seen in a long time.”
“A small watchable movie that occasionally turns in a scene that rings with truth.”
“Boring! Inspired for young people, maybe. Loved the dog.”
“See you can present a lovely story about coming-of-age brothers and a family and a dog and make it timely and touching. With perhaps more f-bombs than were necessary, but that’s their language these days.”
“Felt authentic. Incredible soundtrack.”
“The pouring of the red wine into the white couch was a little too much for me.”
“Would not recommend. Unpleasant characters and situations. A poor choice for our film class.”
“I loved this film! You captured the characters - all of them in such an authentic way. Thanks so much for the great interview and for joining us. By the way I have 2 sons but no dogs. Maybe we should have had one.”
“I was turned off by boy’s behavior at beginning, but ultimately thought it was poignant and had many life lessons. I thought Polly Draper was an excellent actor. Guys and girls were very good too, so was mom’s boyfriend. The bitchy ballet dancers were weird but I think you put them in as a foil.”
“The beginning of the film was obnoxious! I liked the conflict of the brothers. Loved Stella. Overall the behavior of the brothers was unacceptable.”
“Polly Draper – I should ask ‘where have you been all these years?’ but the answer is probably living and then writing this movie. Not only is it deeply heartfelt and personal, it’s also very well crafted. The brothers are superb – in fact all the characters are nicely presented. Great script that touches on far more than just brothers coming of age, Violet doesn’t get lost in their wake. Thanks so much for sharing this movie with us!!!!!”
“When I read the synopsis I expected a silly teen movie, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a movie with interesting and thoughtful character development and a layered plot. I have a tough time watching animals die, but the metaphor worked and the puppy at the end made it work.”
“This movie totally exceeded my expectation, an intimate, balanced look at a family growing up and apart without coming undone. Well done!
“Delightful and sweet. We need more movies like that now.”
“Great chemistry between the real brothers and their real mother. Very poignant. Having to put our family dogs to sleep, I really felt the connection.”
“The family feels like a family. The dog was a good device. Light fare perfectly executed.”
“Sweet story. The brothers were wonderful. Great film about the pet as a central character reflecting the family and its nuances. Very natural connection between mother and sons. It’s upsetting that she is so unequal in her support for Oliver over Jack but Jack is her first and Oliver will always be her baby. The bitch dancers were hilarious but a little too stereotypic with some truths there. I loved the humor.”
"The characters were unlikable. Script tries too hard to be funny and cute.”
“As in the interview this is a very 2018 film, but its moral underpinnings are timeless and distinct: family above all, discrimination and elitism (ballet “bitches”) still exist although they shouldn’t. I hope this gets the attention it deserves.”
